Background information
WHAT IS KWIKTRUST?
KwikTrust has developed the patent pending SuperNFT, a more secure form of NFT that incorporates provenance and the owner's validated identity, that opens up new asset classes to NFTs including financial assets, stocks and shares, insurance plus physical and digital assets.

KwikTrust incorporates an e-validation platform that provides provenance and legal protection. The platform enables self-certified and third-party validation of files, with the results stored securely on a blockchain, creating an irrefutable record of activity.
Users can record and validate intellectual property origination, contracts, accounts, invoices, references, qualifications, identities, video and audio files, and undertake know-your-client checks. Intellectual property and other assets can be represented digitally - including property deeds, company shares, asset ownership, and validated identities - which can be minted into a SuperNFT as a permanent and transferable record of ownership. .

MY ROLE
I was approached directly by the the founder in early 2018, to curate the MVP to validate the business model. I started in a designer role, overseeing the research, design and development of the application. I worked directly with the CEO, COO and CMO on a freelance basis for about a year, before KwikTrust closed their initial funding round from top VCs including Black Dragon capital. During this time I conducted various Quant and Qual research, to understand customer sentiment to the problem. The key findings from this research allowed KwikTrust to focus their target market on law firms and construction companies. After this initial research, I oversaw product management and design. I followed the double diamond design process to take an idea through the various stages of iteration and ultimately delivered a comprehensive webapp design, which was briefed into a development agency.

This case study looks at the development of Kwiktrust. I was involved in the validate of the founders idea, through to producing the design of the initial MVP.

❌I starting conducting focus groups and user research phone interviews with company owners the KwikTrust founder had identified as industries that could benefit from this solution. These companies included the Ministry of Defence, the NHS, and various construction companies like Taylor Wimpey and Baratt. Some of the questions we asked during these interviews were:
"What is your current process for monitoring contract expiry dates?"
"How do you currently ensure your electricians have unexpired certification?"
"What consequences have you experienced when using an un-certified contractor?"
During these interviews my goal was to understand why contract and certification management was so important to these companies.

User stories & Pain Points
1. Create collaborative, secure digital working environments with full audit trail capabilities and tamper-proof file management, for working with business partners.
2. Record property deeds and other high value assets by locking together the owner's identity and proof of ownership into a transferable Super-NFT (patent pending).
3. Onboard clients in a regulatory compliant manner for legal, accounting and professional services businesses, from KYC onboarding through to working in a secure digital working environment, sharing and granting privileged access to files.
4. Manage time-sensitive files online, such as contracts that have an expiry date. KwikTrust sends a reminder when a contract is about to expire.
5. Collate evidence for a legal case, so all parties agree in advance that the record is true, saving expense and time for the court.
6. Send invoices to customers on KwikTrust to prevent fraudsters from intercepting emails and changing bank details.

Initial designs (Divergence)
These user stories were then turned into a set of three flows presented as wireframes. The wireframes indicated the content and architecture for each of the steps. At this point I sat down with the stakeholders, we ran through the wireframes and decided what features should be dropped for the MVP. Features such as blacklisting, certain notifications and multiple suppler didn't make it to the second iteration of wireframes.

Once the stakeholders and myself had sat down we condensed the wireframes down to an initial MVP. From this I then created the branding and the colour guidelines to form the basis of the Kwiktrust product. I created Hi-Fi mock ups and a prototype for the initial phase. This clickable Invision prototype was used to take back to the earlier interviewed construction company representatives, and sign up some initial interest in this proposition.

Sprint planning, team management and User stories
One the user journeys were finalised and designed, I wrote everything up into Jira tickets, and organised the tickets alongside the PM, and developers into weekly sprints that would last 5 sprints over 3 months. These Jira tickets would be followed by the development team to ensure full delivery of the platform.

A month of so later, we had a few companies that had registered interest in trialing the Kwiktrust product during the beta phase, once the MVP product had been created. At this point I decided to really flesh out the user journeys based on use cases and ensure all the designs we had created followed the full flow rather than just a couple of proof of concept steps for a prototype purpose.

As the project developed I also began to develop the home page and the initial messaging document for the project. We changed the homepage from a video, to a clear blockchain image, while also developing a forgotten password flow to ensure no users would have to contact the small team when resetting their details.
When a customer uploads a contract via the Kwiktrust document upload portal we store this document on the blockchain. and provide the user the ledger reference for future tracking. Upon upload of a document the platform automatically triggers a contract validation email, sent to the issuer of the contract via email. Once the issuer has confirmed the authenticity of this contract, everything is stored and no further changes can be made to the contract. This contract will form the basis of any further notifications for contract expiry.
Product Management & Scrum Master Role
Once all designs and journeys were approved as a team, I begun pairing them with the relevant user stories and adding them to a Trello scrum board for the developers to manage their sprints with.
This scrum board included items such as backlog items, bugs, in progress, next sprint, done, and awaiting QA/in review.

Alongside the preparation of the scrum board, I added and organised all designs to Zeplin so all developers could collect assets and dimensions from my design files. These designs were organised by user flow, with Zeplin acting as a source of truth.
